‘Souping’ Your Way to Weight Loss
Juicing, or juice cleanses, have been popular for weight loss and other supposed health benefits for years. But recently, a newer trend — called “souping” — has been dubbed by some as “the new juicing.” In fact, souping has been named one of the top 10 food trends for 2018, according to Pinterest.
Several studies have demonstrated that soup can aid in weight loss, reported Lisa Drayer on CNN.com. It’s filling and often relatively low in calories, depending on what kind of soup you’re eating. Souping typically involves five different soups each day of the cleanse – or more, depending on individual nutrition needs. The soups should contain plenty of vegetables and include protein sources, like lentils, beans, tofu, chicken, fish, other lean meats, or bone broth.
If you’re planning to try souping, remember that processed soups are often high in sodium, so it’s best to make your soup at home. That way you can tailor your meals to your likes, dislikes, and dietary needs. Like most diet trends, souping isn’t for everyone, but who doesn’t like a nice bowl of hot soup, especially on a cold winter day?
