7 Steps to Better Brain Health
In a new advisory published in Stroke, the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association (AHA/ASA) outlines seven ways to cut dementia risk and keep your brain healthy as you age. Many of the brain-preserving recommendations also boost cardiovascular health, which is known to affect thinking ability.
Risk factors for heart attack and stroke also increase the risk for neurological disorders like Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. The measures outlined in the report correspond to an AHA/ASA program called “Life’s Simple 7.”
Here are the steps:
-
Manage blood pressure
-
Control cholesterol
-
Maintain normal blood sugar levels
-
Get enough physical activity
-
Eat a healthy diet
-
Lose excess weight
-
Don’t smoke
