ELCIES attended the first ever Sport-up event in Ghent
Thursday the 20th of April, the University of Ghent and Victoris teamed up to organize the Sport-up. The Sport-up is the largest gathering ever in the the Belgian start-ups community with a focus on sports. This took place at the famous ‘Watersportbaan’ in Ghent. Naturally, ELCIES couldn’t miss such an important event.
Our co-founder Jacq van der Steen attended this great event to introduce our vision and commitment to managing sport data.
The event attracted a mixture of participants including student-entrepreneurs, start-ups, scale-ups and government organizations. These included various coaching-platforms, tech solutions for sports and the national sporting organization ‘Sport Vlaanderen’.
The evening kicked off with Dr. Kristof De Mey’s portrayal of the start-up ecosystem and a variety of initiatives that support starting businesses. Although Ghent is a small city in comparison with ‘giants’ like Berlin or Paris, it seems that it has quite a vibrant community of start-ups interested in technology in sport.
Every participant had the opportunity of presenting his/her project in exactly one minute. Jacq present the ELCIES vision and the unique service we provide with a focus on personalization. After the presentation, he participated in the speed dating event for more face-to-face introduction.
During the speed dating, multiple companies showed interest in ELCIES’ services. It seems like an interesting addition for several other projects. For example personal trainers can use ELCIES to optimize their training schedules.
The evening ended with another presentation of Dr. Kristof De Mey about what’s next for the industry. The first ever Sport-up was a great success. Phone numbers and cards have been exchanged and a lot of participants will definitely see each other again in the near future!
